Gulu City VCDominates Second Round ofNUVA League as Playoffs Head to Kitgum!

Volleyball enthusiasts in Northern Uganda, mark your calendars! The second round of the Northern Uganda Volleyball Association (NUVA) National League 2024/2025 delivered thrilling action on March 29th, 2025, with some standout performances and clear indications of who the teams to watch are as we head towards the playoffs.
The matches held on Saturday showcased the competitive spirit of men’s volleyball in the region, and one team in particular left an indelible mark: Gulu City VC.
Gulu City VC: A Force to Be Reckoned With in Northern Uganda
Gulu City VC had an absolutely phenomenal second round, demonstrating exceptional teamwork and skill. They played three matches and emerged victorious in all of them, not dropping a single set! Their clean sweeps against Kitgum VC, Kalongo VC, and Flamers VC speak volumes about their current form and determination within the NUVA league.
* Gulu City VC 3 – 0 Kitgum (25-17, 25-21, 25-23): A solid and controlled performance from Gulu City, keeping Kitgum at bay throughout the match.
* Gulu City VC 3 – 0 Kalongo VC (25-16, 25-23, 25-22): Another decisive win for Gulu City, showcasing their offensive power and defensive stability.
* Gulu City VC 3 – 0 Flamers VC (25-19, 25-23, 25-22): Despite Flamers putting up a fight in each set, Gulu City maintained their composure to secure their third straight victory.
Other Matches: Close Battles and Determined Efforts in the NUVA League
While Gulu City dominated, the other matches provided plenty of excitement and close contests within the Northern Uganda volleyball scene:
* Kitgum VC 3 – 2 Kalongo VC (25-22, 25-16, 25-17, 18-25, 15-12): This five-set thriller saw Kitgum eventually edge out Kalongo in a hard-fought battle. After taking a commanding 3-0 lead in sets, Kitgum had to dig deep in the final set to secure the win after Kalongo mounted a strong comeback.
* Flamers VC 3 – 1 Kitgum VC (20-25, 25-16, 25-14, 25-22): Flamers bounced back from their loss to Gulu City with a strong performance against Kitgum. After losing the first set, they rallied to win the next three, demonstrating their resilience.
* Flamers VC 3 – 2 Kalongo VC (18-25, 22-25, 25-23, 27-25, 15-12): This was another nail-biting five-setter! Kalongo took an early two-set lead, but Flamers showed incredible fighting spirit to win the next three sets, including a very tight fourth set that went to 27-25.
Looking Ahead: NUVA League Playoffs Coming to Kitgum!

Performance Analysis within the NUVA League:
* Gulu City VC’s clean sweep makes them strong contenders heading into the NUVA playoffs. Their consistent performance across all three matches indicates a well-rounded and in-form team within the Northern Uganda context.
* Flamers VC showed great character by winning two of their three matches, both of which went to either four or five sets. Their ability to fight back from a two-set deficit against Kalongo is particularly noteworthy within the NUVA league.
* Kitgum VC managed a crucial five-set victory against Kalongo, which could be important for their NUVA playoff aspirations. However, their losses to Gulu City and Flamers highlight areas they may need to work on within the Northern Uganda competition.
* Kalongo VC, despite not securing a win in this round, proved to be a tough opponent within the NUVA, pushing both Kitgum and Flamers to five sets and taking sets off all three opponents they faced. They should not be underestimated in the Northern Uganda volleyball scene.
